St. Martin’s Chapel in Nové Dvory

The small village of Nové Dvory lies on a plateau surrounded by the villages of Stará Ves, Lukavec, Bravinné and Požaha. There is a chapel standing directly on the crossroads of roads connecting all these marvellous little villages. On the exact same spot used to stand another small chapel with only two benches on each side built by Elisabeth Tengler between 1850 and 1860. Being dedicated to St. Martin, a painting of St. Martin was inside the chapel, together with a  painting of Madonna and a Child from the parish church in Kujavy.

In 1904 the chapel was pulled down and rebuilt one year later. The cnotably larger new chapel with a tower dedicated to St. Martin  had ten benches. During the final phase of the  World War II., when the army passed through Nové Dvory, the chapel was severely damaged  However, the locals had their beloved building repaired and cast a new bell (the old one was severely damaged as well). The St. Martin’s Chapel was consecrated again by the parish priest from Bílovec in November 1954.

At the beginning of the 21st century, the poor construction and technical condition of the chapel was addressed. Its condition was serious enough that it did not allow for its full use for worship and  other purposes.

The reconstruction started in 2016 and was finished in 2018. The consecration took place on September 15, 2018
