Renaissance town hall

The town hall undoubtedly served as a symbol of the municipal authorities. The original hall was probably located in the middle of the square, but no written evidence of its existence has been preserved. In 1593, a new town hall building was built that has survived until present. This Renaissance town hall was designed by Andreas Butowsky from Opava. In 1784, the building was reconstructed by the master mason Jan Nohel from Velké Albrechtice, the plasterwork was carried out by Josef Wismann from Frýdek. A small bell that tolled only when the capital punishment was exercised on Šibeniční vrch (Gallows Hill) was suspended in the town hall belfry. In 1870 the town hall pillared arcade was walled up and the municipal police station and later the central savings bank were placed here. After 1939 the pillared arcade was once again restored.
