Chateau

The chateau is located at the south-eastern edge of the perimeter of the inner city, where it represents a striking prominent landmark of the city of Bílovec. It was built on the site of an older aristocratic mansion in 1576-1595 by Bernard Pražma from Bílkov. Since 1648 the manor was in the possession of the Sedlnitzs from Choltice, who owned it until 1945. In April 1729, a big fire engulfed Bílovec and caused an extensive damage to the chateau. Baron Václav K. Sedlnitz, and later also Karel M. Sedlnitzký took care of the subsequent renewal of the family manor. However, the real disaster for the chateau came in the form of a fire at the end of April 1945. The shingled roof was completely destroyed, as well as all the beamed ceilings, windows, doors, interior plastering and interior walls were damaged. The chateau later served as a warehouse. Since 2010 the chateau has been undergoing a gradual restoration. The castle is generally accessible to the public from April to October every Saturday and Sunday from 11 am to 4 pm. Castle warden: Eduard Valeš, tel: +420 722 132 315.
